Tammy Roberts

Executive Director

ed@homebaseyk.com  Phone: 867-445-4915

Hello, my name is Tammy Roberts, and I began serving as the Executive Director of Home Base YK in November 2020. I am honored to be in this role. Throughout my life and career, I have built relationships with many incredible youth and families from diverse backgrounds in the North, and I am committed to ensuring that services in Yellowknife are inclusive and accessible to all youth.

Since 1991, I have been a dedicated caregiver, providing emergency and long-term care to approximately 250 foster children and youth in the Northwest Territories with a wide range of abilities.  I continue to provide long-term care to neurodivergent individuals who were prenatally exposed to drugs and alcohol as both a foster and adoptive parent.

Additionally, I have served as the Executive Director of the Foster Family Coalition of the Northwest Territories since 2009. I am currently the vice-president of the Yellowknife Legion and the secretary of the Canadian Foster Family Association. In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and enjoying the outdoors.

Training Coordinator

I am a first generation immigrant settler who moves through the world as a nonbinary, genderfluid and queer woman of colour. Living with invisibilized disability and neurodivergence, healing centred, anti-oppressive and inclusive frameworks are lived out in my everyday practice. I am invested in continuous lifelong learning, collective community care, and dismantling of white supremacy culture/systems. I use learning and facilitation to support transformative relational healing work with people of all backgrounds, with the goal to create soft(er) landing for people when hard things happen, and to (re)build connection with ourselves and each other. You'll easily find me geeking out over systems change work, experiential learning, facilitation, and working toward creating safer spaces by minimizing harm in the world.

I have been doing anti-racism, equity and inclusion work for over 15 years through design, development and facilitation of training/learning across sectors, particularly in movement/sports and workplace contexts. I have designed, developed and delivered training on topics such as Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI), Accessibility & Human Rights compliance, trauma-informed care in social services and healthcare, leadership development and management training, relationship and consent education, and 2SLGBTQIA+, trans and nonbinary inclusion across sectors. My heart lies in supporting and creating a better world for our young people, especially those who experience marginalization across intersections of identities. Relocating from Toronto (Treaty 13) and being new to the north recently, I am excited to learn alongside our wonderful teams and support their learning with the ultimate goal to ensure that our services at Home Base can meet as much of the needs of the youths in our community as possible.
